Non-text Content and Media

We work with audio and video speech content to provide accurate monolingual or translated transcription [link]. Processing these types of content require very specific technology and know-how to ensure accurate and relevant contextually correct texts in the source or translated language, or both.

Right to Left (RTL) Layout Support

Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Farsi, Kurdish, Urdu, Hebrew and other right to left languages require a different keyboard and reading layout to be legible and appealing to their target audiences. At Afghan Translation Service, we have the tools and know-how to convert left to right (LTR) layouts such as English or French documents into right to left (LTR) layout and flow.

While we translate most content types into to Dari and Pashto or other emerging and rare languages, it is important to point out that every content type presents its own unique set of challenges. For example, translating a personal document such as a marriage certificate will require the expertise of a linguist who has legal background and understanding of judicial or government settings where this document will be utilized. On the other hand, translation of a business document requires the knowledge and industry expertise for the business segment where it I will be used.

Dari and Pashto Translation Tools

At Afghan Translation Service we work with a variety of linguistic and translation tools. Every project is unique, and we choose the best tool depending on the parameters of the project. Depending on content priority machine translation, translation memory, terminology tools and glossaries will be chosen that best fit the deliverable requirements. As a full service LSP we have invested in the language technology, tools and process development that delivers the highest value to your translation outcomes. Reach out today to learn more.

File Formats

While the defacto text format is Microsoft Office documents, we also support texts presented in other formats such scanned images, PDF files, InDesign, Illustrator, AutoCAD, translation memory formats like XLIFF, HTML, XML, and many other formats. Because our translation tools read the text from editable files such text or Word files, it becomes easier if the source document presented to us was fully editable. However if we are presented with an Adobe file with no optical character recognition (OCR) support, we may need longer to process such documents. In particular if the file is in Dari or Pashto languages, both of which lack OCR support from common tools, using translation memory and other leveraging capabilities to speed up the translation process can be a challenge. To discuss your content format, get in touch with us today.

Content Priority

We understand that different types of content would be used for different purposes. Translating such content into Dari and Pashto or other rare and emerging languages needs a thorough analysis of the end user, the desired outcome and exposure level. For example, if you are looking to translate a few thousand social media posts from Dari into English, it means the end user is people inside your organization, the outcome is to understand public opinion and sentiment as expressed by Dari speaking social media users and the level of exposure is low because it will only be used for non-publishing purposes. As such we maybe able to suggest a machine translation solution that will be very cost effective and fast.

On the contrary, if you are looking to translate patient records then the solution will be different. Given that the end user is medical professionals, the outcome is to medical decisions including research, the exposure level may be low as it is not for public use, the proposed solution will be a combination of machine translation and post-editing that will offer the fastest way to get it done while ensuring a high quality. Alternatively you may decide to use a professional Dari to English translation process which offers the highest quality but may not be the fastest or the most cost effective.
